Orange Box
"110 Million workers are exposed to welding fumes
Occup Environ Med, 2019
The Orange Box started as a STEM capstone project created in need of safer schools. I was a metalworking, stem, and work working student who is largely into the car scene. This project blends those interests with my intrigue of public health and fitness. I noticed that though industrial fume hoods, sawdust collection systems can cost thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars, they provide inadequate protection in all scenarios.
My design focuses on an inexpensive, man-portable solution that can fit in tight home brew welding tables as well as under a car. The unit is entirely self-serviceable with 1 moving part and non-proprietary vacuum accessories.
Hobbyists and lightweight part time workers are left to fabricate their own ineffective solutions that only heighten danger more in the workplace
